FLYTTE Moving from a family home into a retirement village, apartment or smaller house is a big change, and the move itself should be the easy part. FLYTTE crews handle downsizing moves across Auckland with care, and the price is set before you book. Family members can book on your behalf, and anything not coming to the new home can be moved separately to family, storage or a donation centre.
Planning a downsizing move
Start with a floor plan of the new home and decide which furniture fits. Most retirement village units have less storage than a family home, so measuring the big pieces early saves decisions on the day.
Items going to family, a charity shop or a storage unit can be moved on a separate single-item booking, before or after the main move.
Moving into a retirement village
Villages often have move-in procedures: a set time, a parking spot for the truck, and a lift booking for apartment buildings. Check with the village before choosing your slot and put any instructions in the booking notes.
Crews place furniture where you want it at the new home, so you are not left with everything in the lounge.
Booking on behalf of a parent
Many downsizing moves are booked by a son or daughter. You can book online with your own contact details and add your parent's address and phone in the notes, so the crew knows who to meet.
